Thanks to everyone for those informative replies. It appears that most people seem to have similar problems figuring out the right ammonia readings. I will test the water in a couple of hours and possibly change 50% water to see if it helps.

Every time I test for ammonia it is between 0 - 0.25 but I based this on the colour chart with the API test kit. Forgive my ignorance drrob but how do u know when its "full". Can I rinse it and clean it out to reuse it or just throw it away when its "full"

Thanks for that. Is there a time limit on how long zeolite lasts similar to carbon for example

Like my previous question on carbon can someone advise me about the usefullness of zeolite and when to use it and when to not use it?

Tnx for the advice...I assumed the floss cotton pads would strain fine particles and I may not actually need the carbon unless I was trying to clean up medication so thanks for clearing that up.
