Thankyou for your input, i have just done a 20% water change. Which going with the above infortamtion is about right for having a plec in there due to the demand it has on the aquarium. I will do another 20% tomorrow, during the week i will retest the tank to see if the nitrates etc have lowered.

ph level- 8.5 ammonia- o.1mg/l nitrite- 0.1 mg/l and if it helps tank temp is 25 degrees. What sort of percentage would you recommend? 20% ?

Today i have tested for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and the ph levels. All are at an acceptable level apart from the nitrate which was in the 100mg/l bracket, The booklet recommended regular water changes to help reduce this. they usually get 3 small feeds a day. To solve my problems are there and kits you would recommend to test the water is ok. Or would it be best to start a fresh so i know everything is ok then once the tank is running properly i could introduce more fish.
