to clean a tank with a sand bottom with a syphon, "suck" up some sand into the syphon but before it reaches the tubing, pinch the tubing so there isn't as much flow. that'll keep the rocks from being sucked down. it takes a couple of minutes of practice but it's sure worth it! DC

Carbon raises the pH a little but it shouldn't raise it that much. Maybe the rocks are affecting the pH, I know lace rock raises the pH, so I keep it in my african cichlid tank since they need higher pH.

I'm thinking of investing into a tap water filter so I don't have to keep going to the fish store for r/o water. What percentage of chlorine has to be filtered out to be enough that i can use it in my tank? So far, I've seen a bunch of 97%'s.... Is that about right?

I volunteer (for discounts :D ) at a fish store (i'm 15) and they tell me that I can't legally work there for pay and all that until I'm 16 too. They have told me that they have that policy because of their insurance. A "work minor" getting hurt on the job can be a BIG complication for them...

Great way to do it! I like to feed my cichlids veggies some times, they go craaaazy over it!

Tetra Test is what I use. It's reliable and accurate!

Does this look like it? If so, it's a parrot cichlid. If I'm correct, they're hybrids. Look 'em up on the net if that's the fish! Hope you're able to figure it out! :)
