    Quick Reply Appreciated

    32"L x 41"H x 12"W = 15744 inch^3 15744 inch^3 / (12x12x12) = 9.11 ft^3 multiply by ~7.5 to get US gallons 9.11ft^3 * 7.5 = ~68 US gals. Quite a decent size tank which make sense why more than one male is surviving in there OK.

    Kribs Breeding...?

Thanks Kribensis. So do you suggest just removing the fry and putting them in the tank without the parents? I was under the impression they should be kept with the parents whenever possible. I'm worried about the others in the tank as well because I'm sure there will be aggression issues before...

    Kribs Breeding...?

Thanks for the help. Ya the substrate is fairly heavy rocks. I do believe there is enough spots in the tank currently that they will find one happy enough to breed. I was surprised when I first heard that gouramis were territorial since the one in my gf's tank really doesn't show it. He may...

Housing My Pair Of Jewel Cichlids

IMO it is too small. I had 2 juveniles in a 30+ gallon and it was not big enough for them. Everytime the female was even in the males sights he was taking off after her. If you try it, get ready to upgrade quickly if they need it. And I don't have tons of experience but I've found they are the...

    Kribs Breeding...?

Hi all, Recently the gf bought 2 kribensis for her aquarium. 30gal: 3 gold barbs 10 neon tetra 1 blue gouramis 2 angle fish I was over there today and noticed both male and female doing their mating calls, of violently shaking near one another, in one of the fake wooden logs. The tank...

    Newbie To Malawi

Ya from what I've read there are a fair amount of New World Cichlids that would be suitable for a 42 gal tank, but when it comes to africans it really needs to be 55gal+

Adding More Yellow Labs... Big Or Small?

Thanks for the help. I added them yesterday (2 smaller) after feeding the existing. The smaller of the two original ones seems to have more of an issue with the new comers, as you mentioned probably because the larger guy doesn't see them as a threat. I am going to re-arrange the tank asap, just...

Adding More Yellow Labs... Big Or Small?

Hi all, I'm finally getting the chance to add some more yellow labs to my stocking. It is a 55gal tank that currently houses 1 jewel and 2 yellow labs. I'd like to get 2-3 more. The original 2 labs were purchased at the same time and were relatively the same size. Now one is much larger than...

    These Are Kribs Right?

I thought the red on the edge of the dorsal fin was suppose to go all the way to the end and be much pointy'er for a male. Also though egg spots on the dorsal fin indicated a female. To me both look like females... but what do I know?

Convict, Albino Zebra Malawi And Jewel -massacre?

Ya I don't think a 3ft tank would be suitable for grown jewels. And jewels/convits are old/new world but as jay and others have said they have had no problems.

    Feeding Bristlenoses

Cucumber eh? Maybe I'll see if my little guy would like some of that heh.

Mixing Cichlid Species In Tank -potential Massacre?

Jewels will definitely need a bigger tank once they are mature and can be quite aggressive. Plus they are old world and convicts are new although I've read of people putting jewels in new world conditions without problems.

    Feeding Bristlenoses

Just curious how many algea wafers everyone feeds their bristlenoses per week, and by this I mean how many wafers per BN (if you have more than one) per week. Currently I am feeding my adult male 2, as he used to munch on the flakes that made it to the bottom. Now I am feeding my fish more...

    Yellow Lab And Jewel Fighting

Thanks you two! Hope your right because I really like all these little guys and would hate to have to rehome any of them!

    Yellow Lab And Jewel Fighting

So I recently transfered some of my fish to my new 55gal tank. Current stocking: 4x yellow lab (relatively close to full grown) 2x jewel (relatively small (~3") 1x BN pleco The dominate yellow lab and the dominate jewel are starting to go at it occassionally. It started off with the yellow...
