    Thankyou fred i will look into the retro fit kits. What would be the prefer. wattage if i went the cfl route? Also, I have a hang on the back bio filter. I've been told by some I should remove the bio wheel if I'm going to use any co2 because it will cause the co2 to gas off?

    Algae Wafers

    Has anyone had bad experiences with algae wafers? The local petstore talked me into buying them for my peppered corys. I't says it won't cause algae outbreaks on the package but I'm a little weary! :unsure:

    White Hairy Algae

    I have white hairy algae hanging on some of my live plants and floating freely in the water. It seemed to have started when i found an uneaten catfish wafer covered with it. I removed it of course but now i need ideas on how to get the rest of it out of the tank. THX ALL!!

    So does the lighting sound adequate to u? And any ideas on solving the high ph prob? I've dealt with several people at the local Petsmart and have not gotten very far. One lady said that we have high copper levels in the water around here but I have lost faith in what they tell me at that store...

    Yes, I am "new to the hobby" and this is my first tank. The bulb is a T-8, diameter 15/16", 18" long and 15wats. I have Amazon Sword and Argentine Sword plants.

    The test kit I'm using is a strip tester(quick dip) that tests for nitrate, nitrite, hardness, chlorine, alk, ph. I used the fish-in cycling technique and have not had any ammonia or nitrate, nitrite problems yet. I have a bio-wheel filter and the wheel appears to have plenty of bacteria...
