if you don't want to go with DIY co2, or pressurized co2, you can try easycarbo, or flourish excel.

I had 2 kribs in a 30 gal tank. my (ex) gf brok her tank and i adopted her fish. her female betta and the kribs did not get along at all. they'd constantly chase her, she'd spend like the whole day inside a little cave ornament, sometimes she'd chase them, she'd sit there and flare at them...

hey feeshy, I'm not sure what you're going for with the soil, but would you go as far as to get top soil? go the el natural method..of potting soil capped with sand or something? read up on that method a bit, you can get the top soil at a home improvement store very cheap compared to the pricey...
