Here's another picture of my tank.  Here you can see the angel fish at the bottom left, directly underneat the betta.  You can see my red betta swimming near the surface just to the left of the center.  A little bit underneath my betta are the 2 rosy red minnows, with the tadpole vertical behind...

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that my betta is a female betta, and she has been living with a community for the longest in the tank since I've had my 2 rosy red minnows.  She does really well I've never seen her fight with other fish.  The only thing I've ever seen her do that hints at agression...

  You're right, ammonia would be better than food.  However, sometimes it's hard for people to get this ... I , for instance, have no idea where to get ammonia from.  Well... Other than myself, of course.  I'm guessing a hardware store?

I love my snails in my tank.  They eat algae , little bits of waste like abandoned fish food or plant debris, and they don't even munch on my plants.  They're awesome to have in your tank, in my humble opinion.  Although it is a little annoying watching these guys set up shop in your tank...

If you're having problems with the tank, I would say just empty out all the water, put new water in the tank that's been conditioned to remove the chlorine, and get the tank running for a few days or maybe even a few weeks.  Try to get the tank cycled, meaning give it time for the good bacteria...
