Thanks so much to everyone. Three more fish died this morning and the others were not looking good. Looked like I had nothing to loose so I did almost complete water change, cleaned up muck from gravel and re filled with treated tap water. Rescued a few plants so hopefully all will be well...

We have been away since Friday (now monday evening) and my neighbour has looked after my fish. The tank was perfectly healthy when I left. lots of plants and happy fish. We have returned to find water cloudy - more milky than dirty, (like when you run a tap in an area which is high in lime)...
