I have also read many different things and not sure what it corret. I have had mine for 4 years and they were small when I got them so they are no older then 4-5 years tops. They look very healthy and I expect them to live for another couple of years anyhow.

I personally think that fish keeping is easier then ever. Hardware has improved lots of the years along with lots of different medications/conditionsers.

I wouldnt shine the desk lamp directly on the tank. Having it near the tank though should be fine. I take it you are using fish to cycle?

TammyLiz: I don't believe you will have any current problems using that filter on your setup. I personally have 2 Aqua Clear 110' (aka 500's) on a 40 gallon tank. Thats 1000gallons per hour and the fish seem to like it.

Like everyone else has said: since the fish feel safe they are not schooling. Also, in my experience anyhow, if the tank was much larger they would be more likely to school together. But since they feel safe, and can likely see each other all the time anyhow they don't feel the need to. What...
