She has some freeze dried daphnia, I told her to soak it then crush it into tiny bits. Maybe he will be more likely to eat it that way. But I don’t hold out a lot of hope. The only other thing I can think to do is try antibiotics in case it’s an infection inside. Any recommendations?
It’s not dropsy, yes the scales are sticking out in that one spot due to the swelling of whatever is inside, Dropsy is when the kidneys fail and the whole fish entirely swells like a pine cone due to the lack of ability to process fluids.
Well he won’t eat anything. Frozen, freeze dried pellet flake tried it all. It’s obviously due to whatever this swelling is, not eating is a symptom not the cause. I guess he’s going to eventually die of whatever is causing it, I can’t imagine he can go a whole lot longer without eating.
My sister got a betta about 8 days ago, he went into his own 5g tank. (Uncycled but heated around 80 degrees) the first night he ate one betta pellet. The next day he was acting sick (lethargy, not interested in food) so I told her to switch out some of his water with ro because her water is...
This is an old thread but just wanted to update it. Everything worked out great. I lost one of the three new ones I added to a viral disease they brought in. But of the remaining two, one turned out to be a large dominant male and the other a smaller female. The two males have worked out their...
Well either the salt is helping, or the fish is fighting it off on his own. He’s active and swimming around with his fins open as normal for the first time in over a week. His fins look bad but if he’s acting healthy I’m sure they will repair themselves quickly. Assuming things continue to...
Not the best photo, but you can see his tail fin. The fin on top is affected too at the back. But I think the viral stuff is getting better now. That’s the sort of whitish stuff on the top of his head you can kind of see. That’s decreased a lot. I did add some more salt so it’s up to 3/4 tsp per...
One of my angelfish has developed secondary fin rot to a viral infection. He’s eating fine but mostly hiding, probably still fighting off the virus as well. Just wondering recommendations for treatment. As of now the tank is 82 degrees and I have salt added at the rate of 1/2 tsp per gallon. I...
I think I know what it is. Lymphocystis. It fits all the parameters being a virus that the other fish brought in, being specific to one type of fish (it’s only the angels affected), not having a lot of specific visual characteristics until the later stages where it’s usually in patches (and now...
The angels are still acting somewhat sick but seem a bit more active today. I managed to get a picture of the ‘blue film’ on one of them, it’s only really visible where they are colored black. Since now I can only see a patch of it whereas before it all looked the same, I’m hoping its getting...
Just shined a light on the fish and there’s nothing visible at all. I think what I’m seeing is an increase in slime coat, it’s very subtle and not in patches or specks. Just a slightly different way of reflecting light that most people wouldn’t notice and I probably wouldn’t have either if the...
