Terrible news... Got home from work yesterday and immediately noticed that the fry went from ~100 in the morning to ~20 and the male ram had stress patterns and was hiding in plants away from the fry. I woke up this morning and the male had died... :-( Im assuming the other fish in the tank...

So My Bolivians breed and its a great experience but I definitely cant handle this every month and i don't think their tank mates can either. Any ideas on how to prevent them from spawning again (temp , pH). I read about how closely Rams bond/pair and i would feel guilty splitting them up.

Bolivan's are great. They are easy to care for, will get colorful and have a little personality. Like the other poster said they can get a little nippy, especially once they have established themselves in the tank and you add new fish. Another dwarf cichlid species you might want to look at...

Its a 30 gallon and there are 2 bolivan rams (im getting a 55 in the spring) and the parrots are less than 2". The rams seem to be adapting okay but are a little skidish, ohh and the parrots have been in for 1 weeks.

My two new parrot fish seem very shy? Whenever i enter the room they duck for cover? And are slow to come out for food. Is this typical?

Im thinking about getting 4 bosemani rainbows. Do you think that will be enough to keep them "happy" as schooling fish but a small enough number not to overwhelm the tank.
