AquaCare is the water conditioner I am using and I use API water test.

8pm yesterday - did another big water change (80%).  Note this is without cleaning (gravel/glass etc).   This morning:   Tap water Ammonia 0.25 Nitrate 20   Tank  water Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0.25 Nitrate 40   What next?

One dead platy. Did 75% water change. Ammonia/Nitrate still at same level if not higher. Remaining 3 platys still unhappy.  No signs of illness. I'm not getting it :(

Interesting water info. Had considered pregnancy but we have had fry before and the fish don't look pregnant.  I did a 20% water change (not wanting to disrupt cycle too much).  Will keep doing small changes to manage ammonia and hopefully get to end of cycle.

Thank you.  I know recycle isn't complete.  Am trying not to change water to complete the cycle.  Had been advised I didn't need to change water unless ammonia hit 0.5.  PH is 7.2, normal for where I live.   I'll check tap water and do a water change.

Hi - I have been through a bad patch with water quality but am now coming out the end.  Tank needed to recycle, as of today we're at:   Ammonia - 0.25 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 5.0   60L tank, no real plants or wood, Elite stingray 10 filter, 4 platys, 4 neon, 3 rummy nosed tetra, shrimp, hillside...

How can I stop my rummy nose tetras getting stuck behind the filter and dying?  I have an Elite Stingray 10.

I'm back again, I left tank since since last Saturday keeping on eye on ammonia levels and feeding lightly.  I decided to change water today.  Ammonia test 0.5 before water change.  Did 50% water change and now have an ammonia level of 0.25.  I'm so disappointed it is not 0.  Shall I leave again...

Thank you for all of your comments.  I am very cross with our LFS who assured me my tank would not be overstocked.  Assistant said neons didn't add much to the bioload and my only option for a glass sucker was a Hillstream loach.   Would prefer not to rehome fish as children have chosen!  Is...

Hi - I have a 60L tank stocked with:   4 platys 4 rummy nosed tretra 1 shrimp 1 loach 6 neon   Gravel base, no live plants or wood, Temp 23 -24C.  Tank set up August 2012.  Last fish introduced in February.   I can't seem to keep ammonia levels at 0.  Has been sitting at 0.25ppm for about a week...
