thank you for the advice. no i never change the filter media, i just rinse it, i change the carbon filters. also i never change more than 10 gallons of water at a time. i am getting meds today. also i will raise temp and remove carbon. thanks!

fishkies, i looked at the pic of ich you posted in the other thread. thats what it looks like my cory cats have. as well as some fin degeneration. also leopard dainos with fin degeneration my balas are all OK, except for the fluffy white spot on the ones nose. so do i have ich, fin rot...

i wont be able to get a pic untill tomorrow the spot on the balas nose is large and fluffy, not like ich BUT a few of my corys have the salt-looking specks on them

i have not vaccumed the gravel in a while, but it didnt look bad at all. i feed flakes once a day, and a few wafers as well. i just vacuumed up most of the cotton stuff and did a 10 gallon water change. what is the white stuff on my balas nose?

seemingly overnight, my tank developed a bunch of white cottony stuff on the gravel, and one of my balas has a spot of it on his nose. doesnt look like ich. also 2 leopard dainos have dies. ive had this tank running for 2 years with no problems till now. i do regular water and filter...

people seem 50/50 on this. i wanna do whats right. any other advice?

im setting up a new 125G and will be moving my balas into it, the largest is maybe 7". i know that cichlids are aggressive, but have heard of some people keeping them with large balas. what do you reccomend?

i have one. its about 4" long, and is very skittish, i have a small cave that he literally lives inside of, hanging upside down from the roof. he comes out to feed once in a while. of course i have no idea what he does at night.

great thanks for the replies. i did a google search and found a few articles that said basically the same things you guys said. we'll see how it goes! like i said its a very short move, only a 15 minute drive or so.

i am about to move about 20 miles. i have a 55g. i have no clue how to proceed with this. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

also will the same principles apply to a larger tank? i.e. could i use media and substrate from my 55g to cycle a 120g?

thanks! thats just the answer i was looking for. when you say filter media are you reffering to the charcoal filled filters that i replace or the permanent filter than i dont replace but rinse off?

im surprised that no one has mentioned neons. 6 of them would be great in a small tank like that. hell i have 12 of them in a 55g community and they hardly ever move. they basically have a small corner of the tank they occupy.
