Just wanted to update... Whatever it was is now healing, looks as if there were scales missing all along the white line... All I did was increase the water temp and add more salt to the water... The white line is almost gone... Would love to know what it was though... Babs

Are you sure it was old food/dead skin and not some plastic or something? I dunno, grasping at straws here... I've heard of new fish dying and old ones living due to high nitrates but your nitrates are good... Sure sounds like something is covering the gills of the new fish and the old ones...

Thank-you for your prompt reply, I appreciate it... It is growing on the fish... No scales missing... Knife fish is about a foot long... I am a night person and I've never seen it going after the other fish (unless they try to grab it's food during feeding time and then all it does is nose...
