Some days later now. Looks like 1 particular one (the feisty smaller one of before) wants to be boss and will still chase others. Two or 3 in particular; i'm assuming those others are rival males.... as he will move away from the "docile" others when getting closer and realising they're females...
OK I wanted to get it all done, but my local store was all out of cories, complaining there are stocking issues because of the summer holidays @ their suppliers.
So all i got were 8 neon tetras.
They were schooling fine until it was feeding time. Then there were ~3 of them chasing each other...
I'm listening Byron, and I've decided it's probably best to stick with my tank water as it is.
I also agree on the cory bit. It was my intention, to get 5 initially, but i thought, lets see how these guys go for week. So yes I'll get 2 more. I'll also go with the Cardinal tetras as my final...
@seangee: good to hear. Having said that, if I wanted those guppies as mentioned, I would have to up the GH (shrimp & catfish can take this bump, to get it above 100 ppm, apparently easily)
Quick update: tank is cycled and i have some red cherry shrimp (5) & pepper cories (3) in there. The shrimp are bright red now (unlike when i got them) and the cories are very active. So i'm pretty happy about it all. Now i'm looking for a final species to add.
I know honey gourami was...
Thx Byron & seangee.
That has narrowed things down a fair bit! So some Neon Tetras & pair of honey Gouramis and either a single Whiptail (and no i do not have any issues with catfish; however i just read these can get relatively big, maybe not such a logical option ....) or some shrimp (i...
Well i guess i could get a pair (male & female; of maybe just a lone male?) of younger/smaller honey gouramis. They're peaceful too right, so maybe put them in the tank with some tetras then ? Tetras are available for quite a large range of GH. I like the neons but they seem to need a GH of...
Alright.
So as mentioned, i'd like some sort of cleaning crew at the bottom of the tank along with something in the mid & top sections. I would like to get them as small as possible, so there's growing space.
It is a community tank (soft water), so is there any space for "individuals" (maybe...
that's good to hear about the snails - so far i've only seen 2 - so i'll leave them alone !
additional info
1. tank: 20 gallon
2. plants: pink rotala / green hygrophila / some grassy plant (forgot the name) / anubias / sword-like plant with longer stems (maybe something like a stricta). All...
@ Byron/essjay: got a new GH test and it turns only 3 drops did the trick (i.e. ~54 ppm). So i'm OK with that. pH has dropped slightly to 6.8.
At the moment i'm doing a fishless cycle of the tank, and i'm happy the way things are going. Except i've noticed 2 little snails that came with my live...
Thx guys for the input !
@essjay - you make an even better case to get a new kit !
@seangee - i like the idea of using a single product for sure, i'm not having this hobby to sustain those big companies of steady income ! Any more info/particular product on that mineral salt mix (i'll need...
