Has the tank been cycled? I would assume it would have been a fish-less cycle as these are your only fish?
Do you know about the Nitrogen Cycle, Ammonia and Nitrite Poisoning?
Have you tested your water with a Liquid Test Kit?
Neons generally prefer a mature tank (6months + old)
I think my false readings may have been from a contaminated syringe that I used to test the water after I had added ammonia to get the initial reading, I don't remember washing that one out after .
Thoroughly was all syringes and test tubes now and fingers crossed all has been ok since...
I do have a spare filter I got with the tank, is it worth just putting it in as its new and just wash the sponge in the future rather than replacing it (they cost about £6-8 each)?
This is what the official site says
"PLACEMENT OF THE FILTERThe optimum placement of the filter is often overlooked by many manufacturers. Our filter cartridge is located at the bottom of the aquarium where solid fish waste naturally settles. The waste is then pulled into the filter cartridge...
I know this might sound like a silly question, but is it OK to wash new ornaments in tap water then put them in the tank or would you wash them in the current tank water (taken out of the tank first of course? Same goes with silk plants?)
TIA
J

Thanks again Kat. Advice is much appreciated. Now on day 2 of "qualifying week", hopefully fish next Saturday.
1 question. If I am planning on putting fish in on Saturday. When is the last time I add ammonia (Thursday night?) and when do I do the big water change (Friday night?), just worried...
So you think either 6 green neons or 6 normal neons, not a mixture of both? If so would probably go for the green as there a bit different. Point taken about the guppies. Will get2 males (there better looking anyway!)
Would shrimps need a cave to hide out in, or will they be happy sitting in...
Sorry I meant 3x Green neons and 3x normal neons (so 6 in total to keep the shoal at 6) and a male & female guppy. I will be getting a fry tank in the future!
Other good news is I have had my first 0 nitrite reading after 12 hours, ammonia has been 0 for a while but I have been getting false...
