How long can I realistically expect to wait before the tannin clear up? I'm using carbon atm but probably not enough. The wood itself was too big to boil, manage to soak it for a few days but only half/half due to its size.

Got mine from https://www.osmotics.co.uk/ 2 yrs in, all still good. Can consider a 'water saving kit' too (it basically directs the waste water into a 2nd RO filter) just buy the parts and link it together. BRS USA has videos on it.

So with a reef tank, the 'ideal' way is to use RODI water, RO part usually filters the tap water to 5 tds, then the DI portion gets it down to 0. I've been reading that certain fish require different parameters but in general, for freshwater tanks, whats an acceptable TDS if using RO part only...
