I always understood water temperature should remain as constant as possible. Using a digital probe thermometer I use the same device to measure the aquarium and my fresh water and match it to within half a degree which is usually very easy. Admittedly I'm dealing with small quantities compared...
Just found a new bag of API Ammo Rocks for Goldfish bowls in my garage.
Link to Ammo Rocks
The packet says they soak up ammonia like a sponge.
Would it be OK to put these in too or keep going with just the water changes alone?
My new API kit arrived this morning (manufactured 03 & 04/2008):
Ammonia 1.5 (between shades on chart)
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
I'm doing small twice daily water changes so hopefully getting the water round now.
Fresh water prepared using Stress Coat (untill Seachem Prime arrives in post) and Tap...
I'd just rung P@H then saw your post. Have ordered from eBay now and saved a tenner. I've also ordered some Seachem Prime as my Stress Coat will run out this week.
I'll probably try and get a new API kit today, just hope P@H aren't too expensive, my LFS want £27 which is £10 more than fleabay inc. p&p.
Is it advantageous to have a free ammonia reading (as per seachem) or is it best just to take the stance that all ammonia should be eliminated whether...
Thanks Pammy but as I'm slightly colour blind I find the transitions a bit awkward. I understand the general idea that anything above zero is bad so aim for the lightest possible readings.
I might just get a Seachem kit. It seems the sensor is a ball that you cover with water and depending on...
I find it difficult to distinguish between some of the shades on my API Freshwater master test kit.
Does anyone have any opinions as to the best tests available?
I've been looking at the Seachem Multitest Ammonia and Nitrite/Nitrate test kits ( <a...
Thanks for that, mine are all batched in 2003 so I'm well out of date ???? As posted earlier I'll get a new kit this week but in the meantime I'll carry on with partial water changes every day.
Thanks for the reply but the aquarium is already established, albeit with only two fish (see my sig). It used to be fully stocked and I planned on running it down as no one wanted to rehome a couple of old timers, I had a change of heart this week and decided to restock it though.
I'll order a...
I'm not so much a newbie but certainly not an expert.
I added 5 very small Neon Tetra to my 30l BiOrb yesterday and today the results from my API test kit are:
Ammonia 2.0
Nitrite 0.5
Nitrate 10
pH 7
I've just done a 20% change using Stress Coat and Ammo-lock (haven't retested since water...
Hi All,
This is my first post after lurking around for some info for a day or two.
I have a 30l BiOrb with the original (approx 6 or 7 years old) and now very noisy Rena 100 air pump (standard issue before they started supplying own brand low voltage pumps).
I can't decide what to replace it...
