hey as im new to fishkeeping i wanted to know what plant is best to use to carpet the bottom of my tank?

hi im only new to this forum..... i have a gourami and one of its long whisker type thing looks like it has fallen off would this be an extreme worry or does this sound like a common problem with gouramis???? any help would be greatly appreciated.....
