Had a tropical tank for about 4 years now, but one area that I have always struggled in is keeping 'live plants. I recently upgraded my tank so am wanting this to look great, and for this I feel I may need some help from you wonderful people. :good: :good: So, questions...

Did the regular tank clean last night, but this time cleaned the floss, and first three sponges in old tank water. Took a matter of minutes, so was bank up and running very quickly. All the sponges look fine, even after 3 months so don't think I will change them justb yet.

Not got my water stats, we have a good family run tropical fish farm just down the road and they do it for me.... I'll ask them what it is this evening when I go. If the fish are breeding, then great. In the old tank, which I had for 4 years, never saw 1 baby fish. Only had the new one 2 weeks...

Don't think the extra tank for breeding is an option, nowhere to put it really or have the money at the moment. I'll invest in a breeding net, and try that out. Doing water changes every other day at the moment to bring the levels back down.

What is the yellow fish, cant see it clearly?

Over the last couple of days my water appears to have changed. By this I mean there is lots of small bits floating about in it and also small bits of 'slime' on the floor. In the tank I have 7 danios, two of them appear to be very, very fat. I have not fed the fish since Saturday due to...

I know it was a big risk BUT no other choice. Took a water sample to the LFS on Saturday, Nitrate was slightly up. Stopped feeding the fish till Tuesday, and water change Saturday, tonight and then Wednesday. Still no fish deaths, and to my surprise I have got 6 small fish that keep popping...

Didn't have chance to cycle the filter, due to problems with the old tank. That's why I'm so surprised no problems so far, but ever so glad that's the case!

Thanks for your help Sue. I'll see how the clown loaches go, had the oldest one for 3.5 years now in a smaller tank which I didn't like. So far they are loving the new tank, loads of places for them to hide, etc.
