    Weather

We got through the windstorm yesterday . It was horrible ! Sustained winds of 50 - 60 MPH occasionally gusting to over 70 . That gives me anxiety . I go from window to window looking out to see what might be about to blow away or be blown to smithereens . It’s very nerve wracking . This morning...

Why not a mate for you Bolivian Ram ? That would be cool .

I think my last angel fish is dying…

Yeah , it’s a bad deal when a particularly favorite fish starts down the downward path . Does it give you any reason to think it’s dying and not just being weird ? Clamped fins , shimmying or not eating ? Loss of color ? How long has this been going on ?

sailfin tetras ( Crenuchus spilurus ) are growing and thriving...

Do you ever see them with their big dorsal fin fully displayed ?

    Hard water tannins?

I will have to take a closer look . I think I know what you’re describing but I always thought it was sunlight reflecting off the gravel and rocks in the stream bed . Maybe I need new glasses 🤣 .

    Weather

We’re supposed to get a damaging windstorm tomorrow . Those have been frequent around here lately and we’ve never had them much before . We had one this past Sunday and a neighbor with one of those older 1970’s model single wide mobile homes lost his roof . The wind peeled it back like opening a...

    solitary fish - centerpiece fish…

I think it’s a case of one particular fish with its own personality unique to itself that becomes a centerpiece fish . Like your Kissing Gourami . I don’t think it’s anything you can plan . Each individual fish has his own ideas .

    Hard water tannins?

@seangee has stated that he uses Roobio tea in his soft water aquarium with very good results . I don’t know if tannins leach out of wood or other organics in hard water but I have a hunch that they don’t . The reason I say that is because of my observations around here in the rivers , creeks...

Hi all!! It's been a looooooong time!

A Betta is hardwired to hunt and kill . If you got a little one all he’ll do is watch them for awhile until he’s big enough to wreak havoc . Time for you to add another aquarium , or three , or six . 🤣

    What are you doing today?

@jaylach That’s quite the bird you have and it sounds like you cater to him quite well .

    Make or female?

This looks like one of those particular cichlids that only a dyed in the wool cichlid aficionado could sex with certainty . I’m not even going to venture a guess .

    black sheep killi???

Nice ! I wish you all success with them .

    Plecos are also food...

Well . . . . maybe I might give them a go . They aren’t called The King of Aquarium Fish for nothing . Nothing is more beautiful than Discus . I have no problem with the water change regimen . I could very easily go into Jack Wattley mode there . Do you think a 55 could house three or four...
