    Moving Tank - Huge Move

Great info! I have to use some sort of mover, whether it's with a Uhaul or otherwise sent - I will be separated from everything since there's no way to drive where I'm going, and I'll be somewhere else on the journey with my other pets. I like the crate idea, and I bet Home Depot has a bunch...

    Moving Tank - Huge Move

Hi All, Just curious if anyone here has moved a tank internationally or via ferry? I'm likely moving from Colorado to Alaska - need advice for packing it. Whether it's going into a pod or on a Uhaul, it will be on a ferry through the Inside Passage and has to get to Washington first. It's a...

    Support for brutalized fish

Thanks all! I was able to separate them with a tank divider as soon as I saw what was happening - I've kept one on hand for some time to separate cichlids. It was a nocturnal assault and I wish I could have stopped it. Everyone else in the tank can get through or under. I'll turn down the...

    Support for brutalized fish

Well it happened. After two male angels (no other angels) in a 60 gallon have been living in peace for years, the switch went off and one of them was fine last night, beaten to a pulp by dawn this morning. I know it happens, they are separated now. The beaten one has some pretty tattered...

Dodged a bullet. Need heater recommendation!

That's a great idea! I can hopefully trust one larger one or two mediums in the winter. Even here in the summer, they do need some heat, but you're right - smaller would do just fine.

Dodged a bullet. Need heater recommendation!

Thank you so much! I've been online looking at reviews, and they're all over the board. I'm not finding a really solid heater. I've tried Marineland, Aqueon and the latest fail was Fluval.

Dodged a bullet. Need heater recommendation!

Hi All, Last night I did my weekly water change, very basic gravel siphon and 50% clean water plus chemistry test. It's routine. Very vibrant fish and plants, well maintained. Mostly South American - angels, tetras, corys, pleco, etc and nothing new added recently. I run it as a river...

    Mysterious angelfish death

I have had a few angels over many years concuss themselves and expire. I've had them for 30 years or so, it's not that common but certainly possible. If they were fairly new, it could have really crashed into something by being startled. Some creatures are also 'failure to thrive'. There may...

    Nerite snails (Algae)

Nerites...love them and they drive me crazy at the same time. They'll help with algae as long as there's not something more tempting, like driftwood, and I can't keep them off my manzanita. Get a blade to scrape their alien-like calcified eggs off of EVERYTHING. :) Keep track of them once...

    Breeding all types of snails.

In my experience, there's no such thing as one bladder snail!

    Breeding all types of snails.

I had an emerging bladder snail issue a few months ago, got 2 assassin snails for my 60-gallon. They sure went to work. I haven't seen a bladder in weeks - actually went into a LFS today to ask then pick a few off their tanks for me - they did! I never thought I'd ask for bladder snails...

Corydora with injured pectoral fin and white area on his body?

I had a recent experience with a 7 year old cory and a wound left by a leech or some other large terrible parasite that came in on some nerites. I pulled the thing out of her, and she developed white fuzz around the wound. Medicated, isolated her in a quarantine tank, pulled the fuzz off her...

    Bloated Cory catfish floating?

Bad water can cause a lot of trouble. Have you tested the water - before/after? If parameters aren't ideal, you can go 75% on the water change. Be sure to get that gravel. Bloat can indicate a number of things from dropsy/bacteria/other infections to overeating and constipation. I hope...
