New To Fishes And So Excited! Hi Everyone :)

Me too!!! but I think it might have a different meaning in the States to the UK... Anyway, welcome to the forums FF (can't bring myself to say it lol) - you sound like you're having loads of fun getting started, doing all your research, which is great to hear. Love your sense of...

Ok..i'd Like To Start A Disscussion

I agree with the above. I have used Melafix for a male betta who had his fins ripped off by a female - he was almost knocking on deaths door but with daily water changes and a couple of drops of Melafix every few days, that betta made a full recovery and his finnage grew back over a couple of...

    November Totm Competition Entries

LOL, Big Fairy...yes, it's the modern minimalistic look you're attempting (and achieving) here! You could start a whole new trend in aquascape  But, seriously, it's quite fascinating really as the fish look like they are flying around the room (if you focus just on the fish and not...

    Another Compatibiity Question!

Hi - the only thing that I would be concerned about is the ADFs. With shrimp in the tank there might be too much competition for food. ADFs struggle to find food in a community fish tank even without shrimp because the fish are too quick at gobbling up the food. Of course, you can take steps to...

    Benefit Of This

    I Don't Understand...

If the fry were born 3-4 weeks ago and they've only had 2 water changes since then, it could just be that you need to increase your water change regime a bit, especially with fry present. You should always do extra water changes with fry as it encourages growth. Regards Athena

    Juwel 3D Background Cleaning

You could lower the water volume as much as you need, e.g. whilst during routine water change, then use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe away any algae - don't use anything abrasive as this will ruin your Juwel background. Only thing is, if algae is growing then, even if you remove it, it will...

I Just Created A New Aquarist!

Aww, that was a lovely thing you did for that little girl, Ludwig! I hope her parents thanked you for all your efforts. Will they help her with doing water changes? My first memory of having fish was when I was about 7 or 8yrs old. My dad bought a little 1 ft tank and 3 goldfish (Alecos, Peris...

    Problem With Sand?

From your description, I'm inclined to think it is caused from the flow of water from the filter output. Had the same problem in my small fry tank recently. The filter in there has a spray bar and after my normal routine maintenance I must have positioned it slightly further above the water...

    Can Anyone Identify This Fishy?

I've had dalmation mollies in the past and they didn't look like this one... I did, however, have a batch of platy fry that I raised and had one had that same blueish/grey colouring. You don't normally find blue mollies but you can get blue platies. The best way to tell is to look at the mouth...

    Convict Fry

Hi - well it depends on whether you have the room to rear the fry once they start to grow. Does your current tank have enough room to home them without it becoming overstocked? Keeping the fry in a fry net within the same tank as the parents will cause lots of stress and mayhem - believe me...

    Rtbs With Convicts?

From past experience I would say no - not a good idea to house them together. Both are territorial and the RTBS seems to need a wide area of territory (around 3ft) and anything that comes within that scope will be bullied. Now, convicts are also of the same temperament and will fight back - in...
