Now I've Done It: Yoyo Loach Question

I have a community tank which includes 4 clown loaches. My son in law gave up keeping fish, and I had a single yoyo loach from him, He is the only yoyo loach I have ever had, and is now 10 years old. He seems very happy on his own, and gets on with all the other fish. I would not worry about...

assuming you are feeding a good quality food, of the correct type for the fish... how much should they eat???

I have a 40 gallon Juwel aquarium with 31 fish. I do 40% water changes every week, including cleaning all the filter media. I think people get too worked up over feeding, which ends up with the fish being fed too much. What do people do when they go on holiday for 2 weeks? As many will...

Have I done everything I needed to do?

Looking at the chart you provided the nitrate level looks more like 160, which is a problem My local tap water in the uk has nitrate level of 35 min when tested, and my tank water is always about 40. I have a 40 gallon tank and never have any illness or deaths in the tank apart from old age...

Corydoras feeding plan in a community aquarium

26/27 I have 5 Albino Corys who are about 8 years old, and have never had sand in the tank, nor every suffered any illness. In fact I cannot remember the last time I had illness in the tank, and most or my fish are 10/15 years old. I even have one cardinal tetra which is also 8 years old and is...

seems like the fish that live the longest, were mistakes you bought, or a fish that keeps you from going a different direction with your tank...

I started my 40 gallon tank 30 years ago, and nearly gave up when I started losing control of the algae. My local aquatic centre suggested I get a common plec, but didn't tell me how large they got. So I took their advice, and it kept me in the hobby because the algae just disappeared. That...

do your fish tell you it's feeding time???

I have a community tank with 32 varied fish. I only feed them once on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is plenty frequent enough as it helps keep the tank clean, and does the fish no harm as most are betweeen 10 and 15 years of age. My old common plec lasted for 29 years. Having said...

New Tank Opinion/ Rec & Question

Hi Fishkeeper. I only have the one tank, and do not have any plans for getting a new one. i have had these 4 clown loaches since they were small 15 years ago. Two of them are probably about 7 inches in length, and the other two about 5 inches. They seem happy and contented, and I assume they...

New Tank Opinion/ Rec & Question

I am going now to confuse most things that have been said previously. Firstly I have a Juwel Vision 180 litre tank which I think is fantastic. So easy to keep it and the filter media clean. The filter, pump and heater are all kept together in the one box at the right hand side at the back...

How do people do water changes?

I dechlorinate the whole tank with prime, and then add the new water with a large watering can putting the water directly in to the top of the Jewel filter. That way it does not mess up the gravel on the bottom.

    Holiday fish food

Please do not worry about feeding at all for 3/4 days. Even when I am home they only get fed 3 times a week. You do not need to feed them 2/3 times a day, as you will only provide excess food waste which tarnishes the water quality. When I am away on holiday for 2 weeks I get my daughter to...

    Clown Loach skin problems

He has now almost completely recovered with no intervention from myself. He will be okay for another 2/3 months, and then the whole cycle will repeat itself. The other clown loaches and other fish are always fine. Even looking as bad as he did, it did not seem to worry him, and if you ignore...
