I just shut down my fresh water aquarium after 5 years and have been thinking of going the saltwater route. I would like to start with a fish only tank before moving to anything more complex.
Any suggestions regarding equipment needed.
Thanks for the advice
Some had bent spines, while others had swollen mouths and eyes. It was very depressing to watch the whole thing unfold.
I'm sure I'll be back at fish keeping, I just don't know when. Most likely when I begin to miss the guys in my house.
Thanks again for everythiing. I'll be visiting...
They're all gone now. This was sad.
What kind of disease would cause swollen eyes and mouth, and kill so aggressively?
The tank has now been disinfected and dismantled. This ends 5 straight years of fish keeping.
Thanks Wilder and all others for your help.
This epidemic is horrible. Some of the fish now have completely deformed bodies. My Pimelodus pictus now has a very swollen mouth.
I'm losing the battle here. I'm not sure if the treatments are having any effect.
What more can I do?
Help!
Update:
New fish added just 2 days ago are now rubbing against plants.
There is a blue greyish film on the older fish
The older fish seem to be lethargic and stay to themselves.
Their waste is extremely long and stringy.
I did a 25 % water change 3 days ago, and another one today. I've also...
Does anyone use the Hydor PRIME External Filter? Are they good?
(They look like the Eheim classic series).

Are they available here in the U.S.?
I thought it might be a good idea to add Biomax to my Penguin 200 Biowheel filter. I'm thinking of placing it between the filter cartridge and the Biowheel. (I also have an empty media cartridge that fits in the spare slot behind the mechanical filter, but I don't think it will hold enough...
I've been reading about the benefits of Hydro sponge pre-filters, however they don't seem to fit the intake tube of the Penguin Bio Wheel 200 as these tubes are square.
Does anyone have a DIY solution for this? (Are these sponge filters worth the effort)?
Thanks.

Does anyone have experience with the Via Aqua Canister Filter line?
Are they good? I just came across an article about these and am curoius about their quality. They seem to be a better value than the main brands being advertised.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks...
I only have test kits for Ammonia and pH, (both from API)
Ammonia shows 0 ppm and pH shows 6.6
I did a major water change about a week ago, and tested the water less than 12 hours ago.
