How Often Should I Change My Spounges Realisticly?

I don't want to take this OT. How often do I have to change my gravel? Does it eventually wear out?

    Brand New To The Hobby

Also watch out for lfs that tries to sell you an internal filter, steering you away from ugf - saying that ugf is a thing of the past. ugf gives them little profit. Also no need for you to go back to the lfs for sponges etc.

I never asked a "question". I made an introduction post - I mentioned UGF - she jumped and flamed.

    How Things Have Changed.

Curiosity101. I'm not sure what books you have been reading, but I would throw them all away. Your advise here certainly does not come from experience (if you have any at all it isn't a great deal of it). I have just "cycled" a tank in under 20 days. How do you explain that? Eight fish in -...

Please Advise - First Water Test Results!

Sounds to me like you have no confidence at all in your filtration systems. You are therefore doing water changes to substitute the filters? Why aren't your filters working as they should?

The Internet Hatred Of Fish-In Cycle?

I am not a beginner. Maybe internals suit beginners - they are cheap and easy to run. I honestly believe that if you have a good gravel base, well filtered - it is better than a sponge in a plastic container. If the 1" tube "doesn't get it all" - try going down the other uplift. I have two...

Remove powerhead pump. 1" tube down uplift. Syphon. This clears muck from under the plate - also does water change. Use Vacuum cleaner if needed. Why is this such hard work?

The Internet Hatred Of Fish-In Cycle?

"Remove 50% of the media" - who said that? ..... folks always like to see posts that "agree" with their "set up". No one likes to waste money and get it all wrong. I'm not Flaming internals. In my view - UGF works better. I would suggest that you are Flaming UGF.

The Internet Hatred Of Fish-In Cycle?

A 100 litre tank - three inches of gravel (UGF) - two good powerhead pumps - fish in cycle works well. Obviously you add fish gradually. But not as slowly as recommended. This filtration will deal with most issues. You can even overstock. The tank will mature far faster than using small...
