High nitrate in new planted tank

This is my first aquascaping tank so I haven't used them before. But this product is commonly used here and I found it quite recommended. My tap water nitrate is around 10 ppm. I've been using seachem denitrate in other tank trying to reduce nitrate but have no luck with it, probably because...

    Out of Control Algae

You have lots of fish but not much of plants, so most likely the nitrate level is high. That plus the amount of light you have will stimulate algae growth. Try adding more fast growing plants (e.g. hornwort & amazon frogbit) to suck up the nutrients and more snail to eat the algae.

    Goldfish

With your tank size you can choose which one you prefer. Each has its own way of handling.

    Goldfish

3 fancy goldfish would be ideal, in any breed you like. They will live happily and can grow to their potential size in there. Adding more fish will lead to more frequent water change as the nitrate level will spike quickly, unless you have good size sump filter with lots of plants.

    Live plants and snails.

This is the method I used for quarantining plants to remove unwanted snails: Prepare a bowl or bucket of water and add non-iodized salt (aquarium salt) in the ratio of 1 tablespoon per gallon. Mix it thoroughly. Then dip the new plants in that container for 10 mins. After that, rinse the plants...

    Nitra Zorb???

All groomer here feed their goldfish up to 10 times a day, even more to get a good body shape within first year. But they grew them outdoor using fiberglass tank or pond with large good quality filtration so they have no problem with nitrate. Most of them do that for selling reason, and some...

    Nitra Zorb???

Nitrate will drop when you reduce the source...that's for sure, it is easy solution. If that is work best for you and the fish then it's good. However there are still view option out there to reduce nitrate that I haven't try, so I will keep looking and trying. Wish me luck :)

    Nitra Zorb???

My tank has been running mature for 3 months now but I just kept these fancy for 1.5. What food did you fed them? I gave them Mizuho goldfish pellets and frozen blood worm, and peas once a week. Sometimes also broccoli.

Hello Deanasue, I know this is an old thread but I would like to know how do you handle your goldfish nitrate problem so far? Any luck with Nitra Zorb? I also have problem with nitrate in my goldfish tank. It's 45g tank with 3 fancy (about 4") and I feed them 4-6 times a day, and they grow...

Good water flow for goldfish tank

Thanks for the picture. I've tried using sand, stone and plants as a decor but some foods and waste always getting stuck in there, make it difficult to siphon. And my fish seems don't care to play with bubbles, she just focused on begging for food all the time :fish:
