hi in general most co2 stuff is not to expensive, the most expensive part would be a regulator, please buy a good one and not a Chinese brand one, it will probably be about 110 pounds, for aquasoil dont go with ADA unless you are going to go with the full substrate system.

dont worry to much about kh, many aquasoils actually lower kh and gh in tanks.

for shrimp you cant go wrong with a crabaqua sponges or undergravel, if you are using undergravel expect tons of algae, and I mean insane amounts as all the nutrients in the active substrate has got the water being pulled through it, releasing all the nutrients in the water column.
