if you take a sample of water in a little container to a fish shop most of them do a water test for everything, only costs a pound. i do that every week , them test kits are a rip-off. i know how eager you get to get things done quickly, i only started a few months ago and love it.

thanks for replies. only had mum dad and other female guppie in tank .also some tetras but they are really little. it is in a breeder net which is why im keen to let it out , feel cruel in case its lonely. feed it quite a lot , even thought of putting my tiny neon in with it but is that cruel...

my last baby guppi hasnt grown in 6 weeks. man in pet shop said they were safe to be with parents when 1cm long. i let all 4 out but they got ate straightaway . managed to save one but it hasnt grew since, 6 weeks.
