They can be kept together in some cases. Female bettas are still territorial and will fight. When putting females together, you should keep at least 4-6 females together to spread out the aggression and make sure that there are a lot of hiding places for the weaker fish to get some alone time.

This is kind of a thread jack, yet it is slightly related. Are those flat, stick-on thermometers that you can buy at petsmart accurate. My reason for asking is that the room my 30g tank is in is kept at 82/83 F, yet my thermometer says that my tank water is 75 F. How can the tank water be cooler...

I ended up doing about a 40% change. Hopefully everything is better now.

Yea, I've never read anything about this either. I also found out that a teaspoon is 5mL, so I'm just going to use that in the future. Though I'll probably have to find a plastic one right?

Thanks. Update: Went to a petsmart lastnight and got some plants but then forgot to get a test kit. :( I'm gonna go get one tonight. Also, the fish and tanks at this petsmart seemed to be of lower quality than the fish at the petsmart nearest me. Guess I know where I'm going to get my fish.

For the water change, what percent should I take out? 100%?

Thanks. How many females do you think I could resonably keep in there? Also, what am I looking at for maintenance with 6-8 bettas and a filter? On another note, I finally found the correct ammonia for the fishless water cycle and I'll start that tonight.
