Hi

I have recently added 7 Zebra Snails to my 180l tank. I had some twisted vallis along the back of my tank. Since i have added the snails the vallis just keeps breaking off and floating to the top. I can see that the snails are eating the plants, but im not sure what to do.

I can either get rid of the snails and try and plump the plants up or i can get rid of the plants and maybe even go down the fake plants route.

If anyone could give me some advice i would be very thankful

Thanks

Zebra snails are one of the few considered plant safe so the problem is not them I'm afraid. It's the twisted Vallis. It is not an easy species to grow without a plant specialist tank. In my experience with low light levels, fertilisers and liquid carbon it still gradually became more transparent until the leaves broke off. I would recommend chucking it all out and going for some of the species recommended by George Farmer fom the Easy to Grow Plants link in my sig.

:good:

They are probably just eating the bits that break off and float around. You can try feeding them some pumpkin or zucchini and see if that reduces their need for plant matter.
