ive been looking for a plec for my discus tank and like the idea of a zebra plec but cant find one anywhere! i know they are expensive but much cheaper from breeders so if anyone knows a breeder or is a breeder then please can you forward me some details..... im in south Leicestershire so local would be preffered but i dont mind a bit of a trip to get one.

thanks, Matt

ive had a good look about and i didnt want to pay silly money for it, thats why i thought breeders may be the way forward.....

I found a breeding group of them (5) starting bid £1000.00 omg
yeah i saw this ad too, slightly over my budget im affraid  i was thinking of, as ive heard they are available as low as £50. i dont mind paying more than this but not the silly prices some people demand for them! there are chocolate zebras on ebay for £55 each if i remember right.

There are different species commonly labeled "zebra pleco", but the Hypancistrus L-046 are one of the higher-priced species available. Not usually less expensive than chocolate zebra's, likely L-270, simply because the demand for them remains high. Ironically, there are probably now more L-046 being bred in the hobby than some of the other Hypancistrus species that sell for less than half the price.

there are indeed breeders who sell for £50-£75, if you have a look for some specialist plec sites then you should be able to make contact. One I know personally is Windy who lives in Wales and if he is still breeding plecs has good stock and a magic touch for breeding.

i would want to keep more than just one on its own. they are quite social plecs.

not sure i will have the room for too many... i take it they are typical pleco poo machines?

Not on the same scale as a common or BN, they stay small and if you are keeping pristine water for discus then a small group or trio may mean an extra water change or 2.

I think my mate has some Zebs off Darkstar and is still very pleased with them.
