HI all,

my first post and one for help LOL Very new to aquariums so need all the help I can get

I recently bought some moss balls, I put them in a small tank to just see if anything crawled out (snails etc) all seemed fine so put them in my WCMM tank......a few days on and I was really close to the tank looking at the minnows. I then noticed a tiny movement on the moss ball and saw a tiny, thinner than thread whitish worm thing sticking out then going back in and wriggling out again. So I have removed all of them till I got some advice.

Are they nasties and have I just infected my tank with something horrible !?

Should I bin the moss balls or can I do something to make them safe...

Not particularly sure but here is a quick guide, maybe you can see it here while you wait for others.

Don't throw them out right away, it might be harmless.

thanks for the link, Yuck, I feel all itchy now LOL

Not too sure, it was really thin, very wiggly and appeared pale, kept sticking out of the moss then hid back in then out again. Im hoping its harmless then I dont have to panic about my beloved WCMM.

It was in a tank that is currently cycling, only about 12 days in. I know, I know, fish in........wish I had found you gvuys before I got the tank....bad LFS advice, now I know thanks to this forum. I have my API test kit and test everyday and do water changes to keep levels down. ###### this LFS.....the minnows seem very happy and healthy, they are displaying to each other constantly, so at this point are happy.....Im doing all I can to keep them safe )

Any chance you'd be able to get a picture of it? If you PM someone like Wilder, she (I think Wilder is a she) would more than likely be able to tell you if it's parasitic. She's like the doctor do-little of the fish world, it's amazing just how much she knows...

I doubt it I pulled them al out and flung them in a jug, it was so tiny I don't think I would see it again. I had 5 balls and I only saw it by chance, it was mega tiny, hair thin and about 4mm long, pale
