Hi, I have a pair of yoyo fish, about 1 yr old to help reduce snails in my tank, but my cherry shrimp are dissappearing, so am wondering if the yoyos have ever been known to eat them, all my other fish are quite small. Am trying to decide whether to keep the yoyos and get assassin snails instead and would the snails affect the shrimps?
Thanks for any advice
Les

Yes, your shrimp are being served as snacks. Assassin snails are fine with shrimp. There have only been a few reported cases where they will eat a shrimp but this is very rare and is likely happening after a moult while they are vulnerable or when they are weakened or dying. Once the snails are gone, your assassin snails will eat any of the crumbs your fish leave behind when you feed them, provided it's protein based. You can also use the lettuce leaf trick to bait the snails: weight a piece of lettuce down in the evening before you turn the lights off. In the morning before the light, remove the lettuce. It should be covered in snails. Repeat.
