Hi

Quick question.

I have a 20 Gallon tank with 40 plus 2 day old guppy fry.

Would it be ok to add shrimp (if so, which shrimp) to help with algae etc.? my main concern is would the Shrimp eat the Fry ?

(long story, but fry are in a mature tank with Under gravel filter and established gravel).

Cheers for any help
C

Thanks again

you are answering my questions quicker then I ask them lol

im pretty sure that most miniature shrimps wont eat the babies, they probably CANT. I'd go with "algae eating shrimp"/ Japonica Shrimp / Amano Shrimp (they are all the same thing) for the tank.

If this makes you feel more safe, this sounds really stupid but i put about 12 baby guppys with my barbs and they didnt eat them nor did they peck at them.

I've heard anecdotal reports of amano shrimp eating fry as well as newborn shrimplets, but I don't know if they actually will. It's entirely possible that the people reporting this only saw them eating the babies that died.

They will eat them if they can catch them however the likely hood of that is low apart from shrimplets which may draw temptation to the japonicas.
