You just use the normal gravel vac but hover above the surface and if you kinda circle it round you get a cyclone effect where the bits lift but the sand doesn't. Remember to stir through the sand every month with a chopstick or something to stop anerobic bacteria bubbles from forming.
i`ll be adding 8 panda cory`s and some malasian trumpet snails when my tank is cycled to keep the sand clear of bubbles aswell as giving it a stir every 2-3 weeks
so would i be better going for a gravel vac with a wider or narrower nossle?
i clean my sand with a small fish net just run it on the top of the sand and shake out all the crap the sand falls through the net and the crap is left in the bottom of the net.
I personally use play sand some people use pool filter sand which is not quite as fine. A thinner vac will actually be easier as it will have more suction. I usually end up taking the end off and just using the tube to suck up all the plec poo off the bottom.
