Hi

I recently got a batch of fish free with a fish tank, a couple of days ago. All but one fish worried me. A yellow lab that seemed to be acting a bit poorly. It's a bit thin and it's skin didn't look in the best condition. Yesterday I noticed a bit of a red rash on it's body. Today the rash is terrible, he had been sitting right beside the heater and when he swims, he is swimming very weak. I did test on the water last night and everything is great, no problems at all. He was perky until today.

Thanks

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

A red patch can be septicemia to parasites.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any exess mucas on the gills or body of the fish.
Being skinny can be not food enough, the fish isn't eating, internal parasites. bacterial infection.
What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me Wilder, but he died shortly after I posted...

All my other fish seem in great shape though.

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 200ppm

Sorry to hear about your fish. RIP.

Not sure if this would have had anything to do with it but your nitrates seem rather high. I think an acceptable range is between 10ppm to 40ppm. Might be worth doing a water change to get them down.

Need to find out why he went skinny as it could affect the other fish in the tank.
R.I.P.
