I'm not sure about the yellow lab, but your Blue German Ram looks like a male. Does it have a pink belly? If not, then it's male. Nice pic too.

:D

cool blue german ram cheers buddy, ill have a look when i get home so pink belly means a male then?

pics were took on my mobile. new sony ericisson k800i

The females have pink bellies and the males are plain. They are like this all the time, whether in breeding mode (like my two were) and when they're not.

A pic of our male and female

Are they in the same tank, the ram and lab?
If they are, then why?
They are both from differant part of the world, and need differant requirements...
Im pretty sure they shouldnt be together. Ver nice though, love the lab...

Mikey

they are in the same tank yeah -_-
are u sure about different requirements

Well they are compleatly differant cichlids...
I know that the labs prefer to be in small groups, and with other mbuna, not with lots of fish that suit other enviroments...The mbunas (which labs fall into) prefer pH 8.0 but 7.5-8.5 is ok too, whereas rams prefer 6-7, and germans are particulary fussy about water, and they like softer water

Have a look on the african cichlid section, and have a look at their requirements, and then the south american.

Also, yours isnt a bolivian ram, its a german blue ram.

Hey Cat Fish are cool.

I just want to point out the thing you said about "Why do you have them in the same tank?"
Although you probably didn't mean to sound so acussing, to those of us who have made these kind of mistakes, it somewhat makes us go defensive. I know I've made my share

But it's best to try to be more patient and understanding. Some of us were stupid and took advice from our LFS when we first started. Some of us started fish keeping before we decided to reasearch. Heck... some of us get duped by something like "Dragon gobies are so peaceful that they could be kept with neon tetra", even after seeing the whole brackish thing. I know that one line duped me in, along with thinking tonic salt would be both safe for the fish and raise the salinity (which it is safe for anything but cats, but doesn't raise salinity at all).

Then there are conditions. For example, I bought the tonic salt at the EXACT same time as i bought the dragon goby. Go figure they didn't speak up or stop me. -_-

But yes, the point is that sometimes an informitive website will say something stupid on it amongst all its smart information, and then combine that stupidity with the willingness of a LFS to sell you any fish/fish product. So of course situations come up.

Just be gentle with us in explaining what we are doing wrong ^_^' I know starting it out like that would have scared the crap out of me if I had them both.

BEAUTIFUL rams, btw       . been thinking about getting a few myself, and this just makes me want em more. Actually, I'd be getting these miniature versions of them from my lfs that no one else carries... but yeah.

Erm i never said it like that, i said "if they are, then why?" because i though it might have been a temporary thing, like just a quarantine tank or something...I didnt mean to cause any offence, but if i did then im sorry.
Remember, this is text, so people may interprate it in a differant way, than it is meant to be interpretated...

Mikey

haha, sorry about that. I'm just saying, if that was me I'd be like "oh man..." and feel really bad depending on the situation :p so it's always nice to be extreemly careful on word choice

and no harm ment or done i hope :good:

Hope not, didnt mean to be argumentative, but try, if you can to get one of the fish rehomed, whichever doesnt suit your water stats as well as the other, and then if your left with a lab, then try and get a couple of friends for him/her and if theres a ram left, then get him/her a partner, and youll be good, that is if you have the space...

Mikey

cheers for the backup Gankutsuou lol :D

Catfish Are Cool my tank is a mixture of all the fish i like trying to follow a few fish rules along the way, see my signature only ever had to remove one fish and that was a bgk due to my rtbs always fighting, and only 1 fish has died, tank is about 11 months old. my ram, lellow lab and keyholes all hang out together like a little scholl dont know why maybe because there all the same size,
