Common names: Yashia Haze goby, Yashia White Ray Shrimp goby, Clown Shrimp Goby

Scientific name: Stonogobiops yashia

Family: Gobiidae

Origin: Indo-Pacific

Maximum Size: Up to 2 1/2"

Minimum tank size: 30 gallons

Care: The Yashia Haze goby is a beautiful fish that has a long dorsal spikey fin. It is striped white and yellow with yellow fins and a black spot under it's jaw. The interesting aspect about caring for this goby is that it froms a symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp, in particular for this species, Randall's banded pistol shrimp. However, it can form this relationship potentially with any pistol shrimp. The goby and the shrimp inhabit a cave together. The pistol shrimp maintains the cave while the goby protects it. They will also share food. They do best with a sand substrate. Be careful..this goby can jump. Keep your tank covered. Both the shrimp and the goby are reef compatible and peaceful.

Feeding: These two symbionts eat well. They will take mysid shrimp, enriched brine shrimp. marine flake (Ocean Nutrition Formula 2), shrimp pellets and Cyclopeeze.

Sexing/Breeding: There is very little information available on yashia haze sexing and breeding. Many marine fish have little external clues for differentiation between males and females.
