I attached my xmas moss to some bogwood over 8 weeks ago now by tying it to the wood with cotton thread.

The thread has begun to detach/degrade, and with it has come the moss, annoyingly. The moss is still in perfectly good health though.

Is xmas moss notorious for not attaching? I also have some java moss on a bit of coconut shell in the same tank, that brings up gravel with it every time i move it, ie. it attaches to the gravel nicely!

Think i'm going to have to fish out the bogwood which is going to be a right pain, since the java fern on it is pretty well rooted into the substrate now. But even if i re-tie it, surely the same thing will happen in another 8 weeks or so?

Any tips/secrets? Should i just go with java fern instead?

Lighting is 0.5 WpG. Daily dosing with TPN+ and Flourish Excel.

Moss doesn't attach all that well as it grows everywhere... you're better of using fishing line. It can take a while to establish itself in a tank never mind to attach itself to something! java fern will be easier... but either will do fine if you use fishing line :) makes it nice and dense too.

Thanks.

What do you mean the fishing line makes it dense? I used the thread by wrapping it round and around and around the bogwood, pinning down the moss.

Is that how you use your fishing line?

I normally use glue to complicate this subject...but I would say fishing line is better for moss. By dense I mean you can wrap it around the moss and it will hold a large portion down rather than if you used glue where it would let a lot of it spread everywhere... it just looks better imo. The fishing line will last much longer so i would go with that :good:

Hmm yeah i use superglue too, used it for my java fern and anubias.

Not sure it'd look too great with moss though seeing as it goes white underwater!

Thanks, i'll give the fishing line a go and hope for the best!

How long would you say yours took to attach? Longer than 8 weeks i presume...!

I'm not sure the fishling line is still there, and the moss has grown over it
