i jus went to my local MA and they had a large tank with oscars in, three of which were fully grown. :shout:

I have never seen a fully grown oscar in the flesh.... they are HUGE! what magnificent animals!

how long do they take to get to that size?

I think they get to near fully grown quite quick but take a while to grow that last few ". When young they can grow over 1" per month but once they get 8-10 they slow down.

My oscar Rusty has gone from 1 1/2" - 6" in 5 months, from what I gather once they get 6" they slow a little till around 8-9" then slow down again from 9"+. Growth rate all depends on water and food quality I believe.

I saw an OLD oscar at my crappy LFS in a 30gal tall. Poor guy could not turn around he had to be 13-14" a good size meal that would have served 2 people maybe 3.

Not all get that big it depends on the fish genetics and how well they were kept. But it does take them a fwe years to get fully grown.

couldnt resist. look below in my sig and you will see Keith my oscar. he is currently about 12 inches so about fully grown now, maybe another inch or so :hyper:
