In a 55 gallon could I put 1 oscar, 1 jack dempsey, a pair of convicts and maybe a pair of firemouths or german blue rams. Or any other suggestions about a tank I could build around an oscar??

a 55us would be a bare bare minimum for a solo oscar,,, how big can you go tank wise? could you stretch for a 5ft/2ft/2ft?

in a word No,

As nelly says a 55USG is the bare minimum for an Oscar, although i personally wouldn't keep one in anything less than a 75USG,

you may get away with a JD and a convict or Firemouth in a 55G, but that would entirely depend on the temperaments of specific fish you buy.

I would go for an absolute bare minimum of a 60"x18"x18' which works out at 85USG, In this you might get away with an Oscar, Jack, Firemouth and Convict and dithers

you could go for pairs but IMO unless you are keeping them in a specific breeding setup then it is best to go for individuals to reduce the levels of aggression shown to each other or from the pair towards other tankmates.

Blue Rams are a relatively peaceful species and would be killed by the others in your list
