My male h/m was in hiding last week. when he emerged he did so without a dorsal fin. I treated with eSHa2000 for 3 days then onto a 25% daily water change. Today I noticed a red/pink patch spreading down his back, on his head is a orange/brown patch appearing. This seems to be a discolouration of his scales rather than a wound or sore patch. He is back to his normal inquisitive self. He feeds well, I hand feed him 7 Hikari betta gold pellets twice a day one at a time, he eats them all. Every 2 days I give him a few brine shrimp. I have turned up the temp to 80. He has a 45ltr planted tank shared with 2 ottos (they wont be enjoying the temp). Are these symptoms of the injury or something else?

You can see the new fin growing back
bad picture but you can see the reddening
Him yesterday

Do you know how he injured himself?  Can you get a better picture of the wound/patch on his back?  Hopefully it is not something more troubling than a healing wound but watch it carefully.

On another note, your boy is quite chunky.  I recommend lessening how much you are feeding him.

Dont know how he did it, he makes his nest by the heater and hangs out there. Maybe it got burned. I will ry to get a top down picture.

here are some better pictures of his discolouration
What causes this loss of pigmentation?
