We are just starting out and have a few Tetras and a Siamese Fighter in a 12" tank and have been offered another larger (24" x 14") tank plus a few Clown Loach, some Neons and an Algae Eater.

Will this work or are some of our fish going to fight? What might we add next that is fairly hardy?

Uhmm. I'm definately *not* the most experienced of fishkeepers (only a couple of weeks now), but I have done a lot of research....and I think that it is mentioned that

- the tetra's are pretty fast, the siamese being quite slow so they will get to the food faster and stress the betta out. I am still trying to figure out good fish to keep with betta's, but I think tetra's, danios etc are apparently too fast.

- the algae eaters and clown loaches can get pretty big, the clown loaches need to be kept in fairly large groups too which means they need a really big tank (24"x14" is pretty small). I wanted clown loaches too. :( The algae eater and the clowns are both a bit big for such a small tank...

Have you cycled the tank?

i don't think any of your fish are going to fight, but if your tank is not fully cycled yet your neon tetras might not survive what lies ahead.

I really don't think that fast tetra are guna be the problem there really, but what is the problem is the fact that clown loaches can grow to be a foot long easy, and won't be able to in a 2 foot tank. They need way more space!

Siamise fighters dont go well with many fish, there is a thread in the betta section on acceptable tankmates.. basically shrimp and white clouds are the best options imo.

Tetras can be a little nippy sometimes towards fighters due to their long fins.

Clown loaches get to be absolutely huge.. a 5 ft tank is a good idea for a permanant home.

if the 'algae eater' is a chine algae eater it should be kept in a species tank as they become territorial when they get older.
