Ok so today is the day were im gonna change my gravel to 50/50 dirt and sand. The only problem is that my local garden sent is delving sand which is fresh normal sand with a added peat to it. Im just wondering will beat kill my fish ??The sand is just sand with added peat.Just wanna make sure peat will not kill my fish.
I have read here
http://www.tropical-fish-success.com/aquarium-water-hardness.html
that peat is good for fish tanks because ti makes the water softer ...

It may make the water softer but it depends what your water is to start with. If you have soft water and you make it softer you'll have issues, You'll also gain issues if you have hard water fish in soft water.

If the peat added is too much and forces the water to become very soft very fast the fish will most likely go into shock and die, depends how much peat there is.
