firstly, i've had casualties last week. six assorted Tetras, one Betta and a Platy. my fish now number two Bettas, two Platties, four Kuhliis, an Oscar and four fry.

no more casualties since last wednesday, d'you think i can add in the other Platties i wanted to? the little Oscar is being exchanged for a male Plattie, but should i also get two more females and another male? i love the little buggers! i know, i know, fry and all that, but all the fry are going to be resold to the pet store (they'll buy them!) and, could a pair of 1" Angels fit in there until they grow? once they do they'd be moved into our 50g Venezuelan tank that is in-the-works.

and, do you think that when the fry are all 1/2" i should move them into my gallon nursery tank? i'm afraid i can't get a larger tank, but it is filtered, lighted, heated and gets regular changes. unfortunately, if this happens King would be moved into a gallon unfiltered Marineland Betta tank w/ light. good idea? apparently the 1/2" fry would be good in the gallon tank until they're 1", then they can rejoin their parents, true?

nearly done; i've fallen in love with two of the most gorgeous Calico Ryukins i've ever seen. i had two Orandas for five years without either exceeding 3" in a 10g, could two similar Goldies live in a 10g? for some odd reason my dad thinks this is okay, but i can't get a 5g nursery.

lastly; me and my dad are starting a Venezulan BioTope tank! yaaay! it's inhabitants will be 50+ Neons, two Angels (that's why there are so many Neons!) and a few Otos. i'll finally get my paws on frozen food for all my fish :p

I personally wouldn't buy more platies; you've already got six and are getting a seventh. However, if you'd rather buy platies at retail price and then sell back your babies for wholesale price, that's up to you.

I definitely wouldn't put a pair of angels into a 10 gallon tank, not even for a little while. I also wouldn't put angels in with your betta, not even for a little while. Since you're setting up the 50 g with your dad, why not just wait for the angels? Speaking of the 50 with your dad, you do both realize that you'll be replacing neons weekly once the angels grow? Neons are a kind of pricey live food. Any chance of putting cardinals in with the angels instead?

I wouldn't keep goldfish in a ten, either, but that's just my opinion, as with everything else I say around here.

And this tank is a 55g yes? Dont you think 50 neons is a bit much considering the inch per gallon rule? :/

ah, i've fixed things; of course the babies are all being sold back to the store, and the adults will be all nice-and-cosy with the Betta and loaches. the Angels, i think i'll just forget about stuffing them into a 10g and focus on begging for a 20g for my room for them and a few Guppies

my dad doesn't follow rules. i had to bug him down the 50, his method is simple; buy the fish, if it dies big whoop. he prefers going by what his parameters/swimming space tell him, and if he sees 50 Neons fitting there, then 50 Neons will fit. he's done it before with around 75 assorted Tetras (Neons, Black Widows, Bentos and Bleeding Hearts) had some massive breeding and crossbreeding going on, and after the initial start-up nothing died. instead of Angels in the 50, i'll be putting in two little Blue Rams.

oh, and CFC, we aren't a very rule-abiding family. if it seems silly, we ignore it (like the 1" per 1g rule, and the ratings on movies)

:X Not that you asked, but a 20 isn't big enough for angels, either, imo. I had a pair of angels in a 33 for a long time and it was too small for them, no doubt about it.

 oo... ok... so i can't have Angels -sigh-

well, in that case i suppose i'd just bug for a 10g and set it up with a few Guppies and... since i can't get a Betta what other common fish could i buy? just a single fishie please, something pretty like a Gourami (though i can only get a Three-Spot xX) hmm...

edit: my god, i just remembered. me and my mother are going into Quebec for the day on Sunday, maybe i can get her to stop at Nature or Aqua Tropicale and i can hunt for a passive-agressive spotlighter. i can already afford the tank (joy!) so i can buy that, and ask my mom to lend me the few bucks for a decent spotlighter! ^^ any other suggestions for a common, 2-3" single spotlighter?
