Over the last 35 years I have had 3 of these facinating and long living fish.
I really don't anything about them except what experience teaches. Does
anyone know where they come from ? Has anyone ever disected one ?
I appreciate any information. Satek. Riverbend, Montana

Satek, this is one of my favorite tropicals. They are an African fish. I've had one for a year now. Like you I can only tell of my experiences. I've witnessed him chasing and killing a dwarf gourami who stole some of his food. I've tried three different plecos with him, and over a period of time he killed them all. For some reason they wanted to share his hiding place. A big mistake. They say his electrical sensor will not necessarily kill, but the dwarf gourami died instantly when touched by his nose.

He now resides in harmony with three large pearl gouamis, 3 dwarf gouramis, and two corys. He likes shrimp pellets and blood worms. The size of my tank is 55gal.

Here is a good web site where others share their experiences.

Agate, Thank you. I thought they came from the Amazon river. The three
I have had were never agressive, not even with neon tetras. The one I
have now shares his lair with an 8 inch upside down catfish and a pictus.
He is 6 inches long and will lay in your hand. He seems to like to come out
at night and prefers to cuddled up with the heater. Mine eats frozen brine
shrimp, but has eaten blood worms. I too have a 55 gallon, and I try to keep it at 75 degrees. Thanks again, Satek.
