right yesterday i noticed on my ram has a small slit in its top fin and at the bottom of were the slit stops its white a bit, i already had 1 ram with a small slit on it but theres no white on this on where the slit stops, also on 1 of my red nose tetras when you look at it head on i can see 2 small white spots on it, so i thought white spot but not sure? seeing as my ram with the white at the bottom of the slit where it stops it could be fin rot so my mums fella got me some fin rot med today and hes coming at half 8 so i will be putting that in... what do you think? thanks

Hi George, I find that if there's damage to a fin there's often a white bit, it's like a scar. But it's usually a sort of see through white not a dense white if you see what I mean.
But if the rummies have white on their heads, that doesn't sound like a scar in a fin type of white. To be honest, if you're getting whitespot med in, I'd wait till tomorrow and see what it looks like then rather than dose tonight. At least you'll have the med ready if the rummies look more like they've got whitespot tomorrow.

hi sue tf has no forum at the moment i see, ye its not a dense white as you say but would it be ok to put in a dose just safe incase the disease/infection gets strong enough to start eating away at the fin ? also looking at the rummy today it has a bit white mark on its back too its still as red as the other rummys so i dont think its unhappy but it has always looked a bit scruffy compared to be others because a while back i dropped it out of the net and tryed getting it back in the net and it had black marks on it from trying to get it back in the net from the floor and its never got rid of the black marks, maybe i am best putting some med in do you think? shouldnt harm the fish either should it? oh dont know if you saw my other thread about baby plecs my mums fella has loadssss in his tank and he wants me to have a few so i said yes ok i wasnt sure because i didnt want any dieing in my tank incase i crushed them by mistake when doing water changes etc but someone replyed saying it should be ok so i am going to have about 5 and keep one because i wanted another plec to go with my fully grown bn so i will keep 1 out of the 5 and sell the other 4 to ma maybe once they have grown to a decent size,

oh another question sorry the rummys seems to have white in the eyes like as if they are blind dunno if this is common or not?

The spots on the rummy - do they look like it has salt on its skin? Or are they bigger than that? I'm not that good when it comes to diseases but if the white spots are bigger than salt grains it could be something like columnaris rather than whitespot. That's treated with extra water changes or an anti bacterial medication. If the fish fell on the floor it might have damaged skin which would get infected easier.

Some of my fish have had white eyes but only when they got very old. I have one green neon tetra like that now, and it's the last one from a batch I got six years ago. That's quite old for a green neon. Do their eyes look white all the time? My fish do sometimes look like they have white eyes but only for a second. I think it's because of the way the light catches them.

So you're getting another plec at last :D

their eyes are always like that, and i am not sure what the white things are shall i keep having a look and get some antibacterial med? i was also thinking about getting the clear tonic med too which is good to put in ya can to keep it extra safe from any germs etc

Don't bother with the tonic. If the other fish don't get white spots, it isn't likely to be whitespot, more like an infection than a parasite (whitespot is a parasite) so treat for an infection.
