White Thread Like Algae?

Hi, I posted this on the scientific area, but then found that this forum was the one for algae problems.

I wondered if anyone can come up with any help or advice for me.

Have noticed that yesterday there was a lot of fine white thread like frowth on the back glass of our tank. We were unsure what they were so scraped the glass off hoping that would get rid of it, tonight they are back on the glass and are also on the plants and gravel.

Can anyone come up with any ideas what this might be and how I get rid of it please?

Any help or advice welcome.

White? I don't think I've ever heard of white algae. This sounds like something else. A picture would be really helpful I think.

Sounds more like bacterial growth then an algae. Tell us more about the tank, how big, how long it has been running, stocking that kind of thing.

unles it is hair algae that has died off which has since then turned white...
