Hi,

I treated my main tank, apparently successfully, for white spot about 3 weeks ago. None of the fish now have any visible white spots, and haven't had any since the treatment was finished.
Water quality is fine (very hard and ph 8, but it always is and hasn't bothered them before). I have recently introduced a new filter, to replace the 2 existing ones, but the old filters are still running as well while that one gets up to speed, so water quality should be better than ever, not worse. I just tested and got 0 nitrite and 20 nitrate.
But over the last couple of days a male guppy and my yoyo loach seem to be rubbing against the gravel and ornaments and flashing.

The tank: 175 litres, 8 neon tetra, 6 zebra danios, 6 guppies, 1 yoyo loach, and 4 black phantom tetra (added to the tank at the weekend after 28 days in quarentine with no symptoms). There are some live plants in there which are not doing very well, but I think this is due to me not giving them enough food - I am in the process of rectifying this with liquid plant feed. I change 20 litres a week and use aqualibrium salt and dechlorinator. Temp - 24 degrees (I kept it at 26 during white spot treatment).

Might the fish still have white spot, or could this be a different problem?
Many thanks.

How did you treat for ich?

The answer to your last question is....yes... and yes. Too early to tell. I would do water changes twice a week and just watch for a while. I'm not into using salt but I'll let others comment on that.

Whitespot usually takes between 2-3 weeks to treat depending on the temperatures in the tank. If you don't treat the tank for long enough it can come back to haunt the fish. Other common fish parasites which can cause flicking/rubbing/flashing behaviour are Gill Flukes & Velvet.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I changed the substrate from gravel to sand this week (as I am planning to add corys to the tank soon) and they seem to have stopped flashing now - I don't know if the substrate change has helped or if this is coincidence. Will keep watching them. Any thoughts?
